As I mentioned in my previous article and in our emailed newsletter, the original fix of “pausing” your updates only works in the pro and enterprise editions, here is a temporary fix for those using Windows 10 home edition (that doesn’t have the pause feature).
You can actually stop the Windows update service, this is temporary fix and will re enable itself over time so you may want to keep an eye on it to be sure it stays disabled.
Here is how you can do it.
How to Disable Windows 10 Update
Solution 1. Disable Windows Update Service
Understand the limitations of this method. While disabling the automatic update service will temporarily halt any Windows 10 cumulative updates, the service will re-enable itself after a certain amount of time.
Here are the directions:
1. Press the Windows logo key + R at the same time to invoke the Run box.
2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
3. Scroll down to Windows Update, and double-click it
4. In Startup type, select Disabled. Then click Apply and OK to save the settings.
I want to give special thanks to Mike, one of our customers for finding this for me.
I hope it gets to you in time.
